Day 101: “Sleeping Sun” – Nightwish

!!!ITALIANO!!!

Today we suggest you a song ispired by the solar eclipse in 1999: Sleeping Sun by Nightwish. This song was written by the band’s founder and also keyboard player, Tuomas Holopainen, and was inserted as bonus track in their second album, Ocean Born.

The singer was Tarja Turunen, and in this song she attend at the eclipse, imagining the sun falling aspleep, and describing the last light’s moments before the darkness takes her, with a nostagic tone and at the same time relaxing. As Holopainen himself says in the lyrics, this is the perfect moment for the poet’s play.

It will be difficult to listen tracks like this with the new singer, Annette Olzon, too much different, in style, from Tarja, who was replaced in 2005, but today we can still find many fan missing her voice .
In 2005, before that Tarja was replaced, Nightwish published the single Sleeping Sun, in a new revisited version from the one of 1999, released with a new video, that we suggest you today.

Sleeping Sun – Nightwish

The sun is sleeping quietly
Once upon a century
Wistful oceans calm and red
Ardent caresses laid to rest
For my dreams I hold my life
For wishes I behold my nights
A truth at the end of time
Losing faith makes a crime

I wish for this night-time to last for a life-time
The darkness around me – shores of a solar sea
Oh how I wish to go down with the sun
Sleeping
Weeping
With you

Sorrow has a human heart
From my God it will depart
I`d sail before a thousand moons
Never finding where to go
222 days of light
Will be desired by a night
A moment for the poet`s play
Until there`s nothing left to say
