Day 80: “Black Hole Sun” – Soundgarden

!!!ITALIANO!!!

The most famous single taken from Soundgarden’s fourth album, Superunknown, hard rock genre’s milestone, today’s song is a masterpiece as few, which mixes pop with psychedelia and rock’s hardness. A track both dark and unforgettable.

Soundgarden were born in Seattle as grunge band, but with their fourth album passed genre’s boundaries, going beyond Nirvana, or Pearl Jam, and leaving grunge as a simple pretext to explore all the pre and post-wave rock. So in 1994 is born an album involving and ambitious, lyric, gloomy and intense, which is the story of nineties rock.

The video which goes with today’s song, probably the most noted of this band, imagines the end of the world caused by the sun and won the award as best metal/hard rock video at the MTV Video Music Award in 1994.

Black Hole Sun – Soundgarden

In my eyes
Indisposed
In disguise
As no one knows
Hides the face
Lies the snake
The sun
In my disgrace
Boiling heat
Summer stench
‘Neath the black
The sky looks dead
Call my name
Through the cream
And I’ll hear you
Scream again

Black hole sun
Won’t you come
And wash away the rain
Black hole sun
Won’t you come
Won’t you come

Stuttering
Cold and damp
Steal the warm wind
Tired friend
Times are gone
For honest men
And sometimes
Far too long
For snakes
In my shoes
A walking sleep
And my youth
I pray to keep
Heaven send
Hell away
No one sings
Like you
Anymore

Hang my head
Drown my fear
Till you all just
Disappear
