Day 93: “Massachussets” – Bee Gees

!!!ITALIANO!!!

Today’s song is very old, it was published in 1967, definetely a very important year for Bee Gees. Brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb were born in the Isle Man and had moved to Manchester, after that their family emigrated to Australia when they were still kids. Massachussets was one of the first singles to take them to the top of the pops right when they decided to return to England. The track was then inserted in the album Horizontal. At the end of the 60’s the band started to become famous abroad, their most recognizable aspects in those years were Robin’s vibrato and very melodic songs. At the end of the 60’s, the “disco” period, Maurice (who died in 2003) will often be the lead singer with his falsetto.

Anyway, the real hallmark of this trio are the three-voices harmonies, also present in this live version. My co-blogger Matteo will be particularly happy as you can read the lyrics on screen like in karaoke:

Lyrics

Feel I’m goin back to Massachusetts
Somethings telling me I must go home
And the lights all went out in Massachusetts
The day I left her standing on her own

Tried to hitch a ride to San Francisco
Gotta do the things I wanna do
And the lights all went out in Massachusetts
They brought me back to see my way with you

Talk about the life in Massachusetts
Speak about the people I have seen
And the lights all went out in Massachusetts
And Massachusetts is one place I have seen

I will remember Massachusetts
