Day 75: “Carolina In My Mind” – James Taylor

!!!ITALIANO!!!

Those who read our blog regularly know my moments of melancholy and homesickness. In those moments I expect music to go along with the sadness into which I like to sink. You may say I am a masochist, but please do not say that nothing like that ever happens to you.

Today my nostalgia is so strong that it takes me back to 1968, when I was not born yet. That year James Taylor released his first album, which contained today’s song. That was the beginning of his long and bright career. Almost 30 years later I listened to this song for the first time thanks to a friend of mine, and somehow this melody remained inside me and comes out from time to time. More or less it goes like this.

Lyrics

Chorus:
In my mind I’m gone to Carolina
Can’t you see the sunshine
Can’t you just feel the moonshine
And ain’t it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
And I’m gone to Carolina in my mind

Karin she’s a silver sun
You’d best walk her way and watch it shine
Watch her watch the morning come
A silver tear appearing now I’m crying ain’t I
Gone to Carolina in my mind

There ain’t no doubt in no-one’s mind
That love’s the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe the sky’s on fire I’m dying ain’t I
Gone to Carolina in my mind

Chorus

Dark and silent late last night
Think I might have heard the highway call
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
And signs that might be omens say I’m going going
Gone to Carolina in my mind

Now with a holy host of others standing ‘round me
Still I’m on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me

Chorus
