Day 125: “Us” – Regina Spektor

!!!ITALIANO!!!

Today we want suggest a Russian singer, song-writer and pianist, naturalized United States citizen, who can be collocated in anti-folk genre, revealing in her tracks a mix of styles and techniques, which often begins at the piano and then adds vocalizes, onomatopoeias, moans, gurglings and trills.

The originality of this artist is evident in today’s song, Us, included in the (500) Days of Summer movie’s soundtrack, with  Joseph Gordon-Levitt as leading actor with the beautiful Zooey Deschanel.

But this is note the only singer’s song choosen for a movie’s soundtrack. In fact you can find  The Call at the end of the second episode of The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian, released in 2008, and also in this song is clear the Regina’s voice peculiarity, really dramatic.

Us – Regina Spektor

They made a statue of us
And it put it on a mountaintop
Now tourists come and stare at us
Blow bubbles with their gum
Take photographs have fun, have fun

They’ll name a city after us
And later say it’s all our fault
Then they’ll give us a talking to
Then they’ll give us a talking to
Because they’ve got years of experience

We’re living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We’re living in a den of thieves
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious

We wear our scarves just like a noose
But not ‘cause we want eternal sleep
And though our parts are slightly used
New ones are slave labor you can keep

We’re living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
We’re living in a den of thieves
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious

They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
The tourists come and stare at us
The sculptor’s mama sends regards
They made a statue of us
They made a statue of us
Our noses have begun to rust
We’re living in a den of thieves
Rummaging for answers in the pages
Were living in a den of thieves

And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
And it’s contagious
