Day 51: “Lemonade” – CocoRosie

Today’s song is once more a suggestion by a beautiful reader of our blog: Francesca. I would like to thank her and I also remind all of you that your suggestions are always appreciated. Moreover, I have to say that this duo, that I did not know, is really interesting and original. But, in order to introduce this track, I would like to report the words of who has suggested it.

CocoRosie is a project born in 2003 by the talented Casady sisters. Creative, eclectic and experimental: they mix melodies from different ages and places with very modern beat boxes, they use toys as musical instruments, metallic and electronic voices alternating with lyrics. It would be impossible and reductive to identificate their albums with a precise genre, they are indie, but in very personal and unconventional way.
Lemonade is the single from Grey Oceans, 2010.
Dreamlike atmosphere, childhood memories and soft voices: these are the ingredients of this song which strongly but still gently gets inside you and does not come out anymore.

It was Cinco de Mayo
Pillow case on his head
No more breathing time
An ambulance sped
It sped round every corner
Calling out his name

Shot a rabbit from the back seat window
Sat and watched in the summer corn row
Ate icecream in a desert dream
Got love in father seeing you
Too hot inside to hot outside
Lazy days when you said just go for a ride
We’ll sail on Spirit Lake,
Me, my pappy, and his lemonade
